FAQ

What is the difference between a fiction book and a fable?

A fiction book tells a story, and the story is the star. It goes into detail and has a lot of character development, desciptions, scenery and sometimes complex discussions and relationships. Because of those things, fiction books tend to be longer in word count and harder to write. In a fable, the lesson and message are the star and the story is the vessel to deliver them! The story is simple, has just enough character development to make the story interesting, relatable, and make sense. Fables are typically shorter, are easier to storyboard, and relationships are less complex.

Will I finish my fable by just working during my time in the masterclass?

It's unlikely that you will be able to complete your fable without working on it outside of class time. While fables are simpler to write than a fiction book, they do still require time to develop. The time it takes you to complete your fable will depend on your clarity of message, your comfort writing, and the focus you practice during writing times.  A focused writer should be able to complete their fable with 4 hours of writing a week outside of class. If you are slower as a writer, or you run into some distractions you can still complete your book on your time schedule. The tools you are given in your classes will empower you to complete writing on your own time frame.

What if my English teacher said I was not a very good writer???

Same friend, same! My english teacher told me I was a terrible writer. In fact, in 5th grade I created a storyboard of vegetables who were advertising for MEATY WEDNESDAY to save their friends. Well, I failed that assignment because my teacher ws horrified at talking carrots. Writing is about releasing the passions and creativity inside you. You can always get help with editing and I learned from writing all the time that practice improves grammar and structure. My goal is to give you the tools to put your message into a powerful, entertaining, and completely YOU fable. Your dream of becoming an author is closer than you think! Take it from me. I dreamed of it my whole life, and I can tell you...the dream is real and it's possible!!

Is there anything after this course that will teach me how to self-publish, market, or submit a proposal to publishers?

Yes!  At the end of this course we will go over next steps and options. However, if you'd like more guided instruction and step by step coaching to take your fable to the market, you can register for the WRITER'S FABLE MASTERCLASS 2! If you need bits and peices of help, I can connect you with people who edit, design, illustrate or resources for you to find those on your own.

My mom/dad/aunt/etc wants a class like this too, is there anything for them?

Yes! There will be courses available for all ages in 2025, but one on one coaching is always available for all ages and all kidns of books! Don't hire a ghost writer. No one can tell your message the way you can! All you need is a little structure and guidance to become the writer you've always known you can be! Email Kate@kateleavell.com to inquire about book-writing coaching!

Classes are available Wednesday and Sunday Evenings from 7:30 EST to 9pm EST.  You will need to choose one class per week to participate in. You are welcome to attend more than once a week at no additional charge if you would like to continue working on that week's objectives in a class setting. You will need to apply to receive registration access for this masterclass as spots are limited.
